Abstract Body:
Diabetic Retinopathy is a leading cause of blindness all over the world. Of a greater concern is Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy (PDR) which leads to Vitreous Haemorrhage and Tractional Retinal Detachment (TRD). It occurs when the balance between VEGF and fibrous TGF reaches a specific threshold ratio. It results in scarring and eventual blindness. Repair of combined retinal detachments in diabetics is very challenging. Bimanual dissection of fibrovascular membranes is required with silicon oil injection in these eyes to achieve good anatomical and functional outcome. In this video, a needle has been used along with Max grip forceps for bimanual dissection. The membrane was lifted with forceps and needle was used to separate the attachments of fibrovascular membrane and underlying retina. It reduces the incidence of iatrogenic breaks in retina.
