Title:
BOT Graft: Botoropase breakthrough as low cost fibrin glue alternative in pterygium graft fixation
Abstract Body:
This video showcases a novel sutureless technique for conjunctival autograft fixation in primary pterygium surgery using Botropase (hemocoagulase) as the adhesive agent. The procedure begins with extensive subconjunctival dissection and pterygiorhexis, followed by harvesting a limbal-including autograft. Two drops of Botropase—placed under the conjunctiva and graft—facilitate secure adhesion without the need for sutures or fibrin glue. The graft is ironed flat, with excess fluid absorbed via capillary action. This technique significantly reduces operative time, improves patient comfort, and eliminates the risk of subconjunctival hemorrhage and suture-related complications. With excellent cosmetic outcomes, low cost, and reproducibility, this method—termed BOT-Graft—offers a transformative alternative for high-volume, resource-conscious ophthalmic practices.
