Significance of Macular Evaluation in All Stages of Glaucoma
Summary
Damage to the Macula Has Been Recognised to Be More Common in Patients with Glaucoma Than Previously Thought. Macular Evaluation Is Crucial in Comprehensive Glaucoma Management Particularly for Early Detection, Providing Complementary Information to Other Diagnostic Tools, Monitoring Progression and Overcoming Limitations of Optic Nerve Head Assessment. Such Evaluation Can Identify Progression When Nerve Fiber Layer Measurements Plateau. Macular Oct Scans Are More Reproducible Than Other Methods. Early Micro-vascular Changes Detected by Oct Angiography Can Be a Marker of Glaucomatous Damage. While Glaucoma Is Often Associated with Peripheral Vision Loss, Damage to Macula Can Significantly Impact Central Vision Which Is Crucial for Daily Tasks of Patients Making Macular Evaluation Quintessential to Preserving Patient’s Quality of Life. Through This Instruction Course, Importance and Methodologies of Macular Evaluation Across Glaucoma Stages Will Be Discussed by an Experienced Panel.

Professor with teaching experience of close to 30 years and is the Head of Glaucoma clinic since last 15 years o has been Chief Instructor in several AIOC instruction courses o judged competitive free paper presentation session in AIOC o was faculty speaker in Glaucoma India Education Program (GIEP), AIOS ARC symposium on glaucoma o evaluated free papers and instruction courses for glaucoma for AIOS o was faculty in PG Refresher course o trained general ophthalmologists on early diagnosis of glaucoma as part of national program
