This video showcases a resident’s candid journey through phacoemulsification training, highlighting how early “bloopers” gradually transformed into confident, refined surgical performance. Common novice challenges- capsulorhexis extensions, tricky hydrodissection, stubborn nuclear rotation, wound instability, and cortex removal struggles- are presented alongside the specific corrections and mentor-guided refinements that improved outcomes. Through short surgical clips, the video illustrates how structured supervision, repeated practice, and reflective learning convert initial uncertainty into meaningful breakthroughs. Practical pearls in safe phaco-tip handling, efficient nucleus management, and smooth IOL implantation are emphasised. By openly sharing both missteps and progress, the video aims to normalise the learning curve and encourage trainees to embrace mistakes as essential stepping stones toward surgical excellence.
