Under the golden glow : Chandelier-Assisted Cataract Surgery Through a Corneal Scar
Abstract Body:
This video highlights a unique approach to cataract surgery performed under chandelier illumination in a patient with a visually significant corneal scar. Conventional microscope lighting often provides suboptimal visualization in the presence of corneal opacity, compromising surgical clarity and intraoperative depth perception. By employing a hands-free chandelier endo-illumination, the surgical field is illuminated from within the eye, creating enhanced contrast and better delineation of anterior segment structures. This technique allowed safe completion of the capsulorrhexis, phacoemulsification, and cortical aspiration despite the distorted anterior segment view caused by the scar. This approach may expand the surgical toolkit for managing complex anterior segment pathology where traditional lighting is insufficient.
