DOUBLE TROUBLE: A TALE OF TWO 240 BAND
Abstract Body:
This video presents a critical intraoperative discovery during retinal detachment surgery: a standard silicone 240 encircling band exhibiting abnormal thickness due to a rare manufacturing defect - congenital fusion of two separate bands. We demonstrate the meticulous microsurgical technique for safely separating the adhered bands using fine forceps , preserving both structural integrity and surgical timeline. The case emphasizes two essential practice points: first, the non-negotiable requirement for pre-implantation device inspection; second, the feasibility of intraoperative salvage when faced with equipment anomalies. This encounter serves as a powerful reminder that surgical vigilance extends beyond technique to encompass every element of the procedure, positioning the surgeon as the ultimate guardian of patient safety in the operating theater.
