Summary
Infectious keratitis management is difficult for a comprehensive ophthalmologist. It occupies a lot of chair time, gives poor results and can damage the credibility of a private practitioner. This course aims to train general ophthalmologist in corneal ulcer diagnosis- to distinguish bacterial , viral , fungal and parasitic aetiologies . Management strategies- teaching basic KOH and Gram staining . Medical management - preparation of fortified drops, when and how , use of oral medications will also be discussed. Use of corticosteroids, when and how , surgical management by cyanoacrylate glue and bandage contact lens, tenon's patch graft and when to refer for therapeutic corneal grafts. Follow up and management of corneal grafts done for corneal ulcers will also be discussed. Overall, a general ophthalmologist will feel confident in management of corneal ulcers.
Resume
The chief instructor has 20+ years of experience after a long term cornea fellowship from a reputed institute. Has trained residents in ulcer management and has written a text and atlas of corneal diseases. The chief instructor has successfully treated over 1000 ulcers and has. published in national and international journals and presented at state , national and international levels
