Summary
This course with aid of edited surgical videos will cover a number of practical issues involved in implantation of non-valved aqueous drainage implants (AADI, Ahmed Clear Path and Paul Glaucoma Implant) in refractory adult and pediatric glaucoma. Wet lab training to perfect a safer surgery system for tubes will be discussed. After description of the basic methods of implantation, modifications in implantation techniques needed for sulcus placement, pars plana tube insertion and a repeat tube will be covered. Early and late post-op hypotony and tube and plate related complications will be reviewed and management strategies with special emphasis on prevention will be discussed. At the end of the course, the attendee will be able to (1) understand the surgical technique and role of non-valved aqueous drainage implant in the management of refractory glaucoma (2) recognize problems encountered associated with the procedure, and (3) be able to institute appropriate measures to resolve them

Chief Instructor heads the Glaucoma service at a tertiary eye hospital, is actively involved in teaching and training residents, fellows and practicing ophthalmologists. Area of research interest is in the use of a cost effective aqueous drainage implant in refractory glaucoma. Did pioneering work in the development and widespread use of this GDD and has published extensively on it’s safety and efficacy outcomes in refractory adult and pediatric glaucoma
