Summary
After residency, newly-minted ophthalmologists are faced with a plethora of options - fellowships, international examinations, private practice, or further training abroad. One may find it difficult to choose the right career path. This instruction course simplifies things for trainees: from maximising their training by accessing the right resources, foreign qualifying exams, observerships overseas, the options beyond ophthalmology, and how to chose what’s best for you. This IC takes the form of a panel discussion. The panelists are from premier ophthalmology institutes across the country and are actively involved in ophthalmology education, with in-depth knowledge on the topics allotted to them. In its 7th consecutive year, this IC not only analyses benefits of each career option but also objectively discusses how to maximise the opportunities available making it a unique course that every young ophthalmologist must attend.
Resume
The Chief Instructor heads the academic programme at a tertiary care eye institute in western India. The institute offers fellowships in different subspecialities and different post-graduation courses. It is also a training centre for medical foreign graduates. The CI is actively involved in preparation and implementation of the training curriculum, overseeing academic progress of the students, and one-on-one teaching. The institute is an important centre of training prospective candidates for international examinations, under the guidance of the chief instructor.
