Summary
Tissue Plasminogen Activator( tPA), a drug primarily used for cardiovascular diseases, has been a relatively recent addition to the ophthalmology armamentarium for treatment of retinal diseases.There still however, exists a variety of doubts regarding its use, with respect to choice of tPA, it's procurement, preparation of tPA, indications of use, dosages, various routes of administration, methods and instrumentation for administration, the post administration follow up care and the cost factors. This Instruction course aims at alleviating those doubts and be of help to those who wish to incorporate tPA in their retina practice hassle-free.

The Chief Instructor for this instruction course is a Senior Vitreo Retina surgeon, heading the Vitreo Retinal department of a tertiary care eye hospital and is credited with introducing the intraocular use of tPA in the state. The instructor has been routinely using tPA for over 3 years, now in over 70 patients with varied retinal presentations necessitating the use of this drug, either as first choice, or in the form of a rescue procedure, either as a medical, intravitreal or a surgical subretinal procedure using instruments, designed specifically for subretinal interventions.
