Title
Glaucoma secondary to posterior segment disorders- an Update
Summary
Secondary glaucomas related to retinal and choroidal disorders can be complex and challenging to manage. Neovascular glaucoma is a common type and other causes include uveitic glaucoma, glaucoma due to intraocular tumours, or following buckle surgery or vitrectomy. A comprehensive evaluation is crucial to diagnose and manage secondary glaucomas. Treatment options include combination of medical therapy, laser and surgical interventions. In advanced cases, posterior segment surgical intervention may be necessary, and this is where vitreoretina surgeons play a crucial role. When non-surgical approaches are ineffective for IOP control, or the disease has progressed significantly, glaucoma surgery may be required. The choice of treatment depends on the underlying disease, its severity, and the patient's overall health. Early diagnosis and tailored treatment plan with collaboration between retinal specialists and glaucoma surgeons is essential to provide the best care for affected patients.
